With All Your Heart / Con Todo Nuestro Corazón

Can a two thousand-year-old Church come up with a new and unique way to form Disciples? Four parishes in our diocese have responded to that question with a resounding, “Yes!"

St. John the Evangelist in Viera, St. Francis of Assisi in Apopka, St. Vincent DePaul in Wildwood, and Santo Toribio Romo Mission in Mascotte, with the support of The Catholic Foundation of Central Florida, are participating in a national pilot to implement With All Your Heart/Con Todo Nuestro Corazón, a revolutionary bilingual model of Discipleship formation created by Greater Mission, a development firm serving the Catholic Church nationally.

With All Your Heart is grounded in the two Greatest Commandments – to love God and others with all your heart, mind, soul and strength.

This model guides the growth to wholeheartedly embodying these commandments by focusing for a period of three months annually on the Heart to Pray, Heart to Serve, Heart to Share, and Heart to Witness. The growth to Discipleship in each Heart takes place through forms of catechesis, celebration and commitment decided on by each parish, all of which take place in the context of a community that seeks to be “One in the Lord." This holistic approach inspires parishioners to continually grow as disciples of Jesus.

With the help of The Catholic Foundation and Greater Mission staff each parish has already participated in training and planning sessions, formed a Core Team, designated a Parish Coordinator and completed a baseline assessment. With All Your Heart offers these four parishes an exciting way to tap into the amazing sum of its parishioners’ gifts through a process of continuing conversion. Participating parishes will be learning from and inspiring each other through a National Learning Community. Additional parishes have expressed interest in implementing this new model next fall.

“We chose to adopt this model of discipleship for our parish because it is a holistic approach to discipleship," said Fr. Charles Deeney, pastor at St. Francis of Assisi. "We worship and serve God through prayer, service, sharing and witnessing. As Disciples, we can focus on our community, the Body of Christ.”

With the help of these parishes, a significant contribution can be made to the present and future of our Catholic Church.
