The Catholic Foundation and the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary welcomed guests for an early look of the new Gospel Gardens with sculptures by Timothy Schmalz.
The Gospel Gardens are a gift to the world from Barbara Papitto, offered in loving memory of her husband, Ralph Papitto. For more than 40 years, Barbara has supported causes where she believes she can make a true difference. We are truly grateful for her generosity and devotion to Christ.
Visitors were welcomed by Bishop Moore students and treated to snacks, beverages, and a tour through the Gardens. Bishop Noonan and Timothy Schmalz shared reflections on the inspiration behind the sculptures, reminding us of the power of sacred art to lift hearts toward Christ.
Attendee Mark Nothnagle captured the moment best: “The Gospel Gardens event was truly breathtaking… Any who missed it surely lost out on something unique and beyond words. It calls for wonder and prayer.”
The Basilica will open the Gospel Gardens to the public this December. We invite you to share this good news with your parish, family, and friends. Learn more about the hidden stories carved into each station.
