New PGAC Chair: Ty McCormack

We are excited to welcome Ty McCormack as the new Chair of our Planned Giving Advisory Council. Learn more about Ty and his passion for the Church and financial planning.

Ty McCormack is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional with Aksala Wealth Advisors focusing his career on providing financial literacy to both individuals and corporations. As a financial planner and son of an estate planning attorney, Ty understands the value of having all of one’s financial affairs in order at all times. He had also been taught, from a young age, the value of philanthropy and the belief that “as each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace” (1 Peter 4:10). Walking the talk, Ty and his wife, Kylan, have established a Donor Advised Fund with The Catholic Foundation as well as the McCormack Family Charitable Endowment Fund to benefit marriage preparation activities in the Diocese of Orlando. They are also members of the Vivos Christi Legacy Society.

“I was blessed to have been raised in a Roman Catholic family where our faith came before anything else. In my career and personal life, I am very prudent with money in regards to which organizations I trust with my assets. After doing a thorough analysis of The Catholic Foundation of Central Florida, I felt confident that there was no other place that would honor our charitable legacy better.”

As a result of this same confidence, Ty became a founding member of The Catholic Foundation’s Planned Giving Advisory Council (PGAC) and earned his Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®) designation as a member of the Foundation’s CAP® Study Group. For the past two years, Ty served as Vice Chair of the PGAC – a group of active and talented charitable gift and estate planning professionals dedicated to the mission and vision of The Catholic Foundation. He now takes the reigns as we look to grow and expand the impact of the group across the nine counties of the diocese.

Ty lives in Winter Park with his lovely wife Kylan and daughter Maeve – and they are expecting their second child, Claire, in October 2025. Ty is a graduate of both Clemson University (B.A. Chinese & International Business) and Auburn University (MBA and M.S. Finance), where he was an All-American Track/Cross Country athlete and the 2014 SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year. On the weekends, Ty can be found either running in road races, watching the Tigers play sports, or volunteering his time to the Catholic church and United Against Poverty.

Faces of Philanthropy Q & A with Ty McCormack!

Q: What is your top goal as Chair of the Planned Giving Advisory Council?

A: My top goal as Chair of the PGAC would be to see an increased awareness within our Catholic community of the different ways (both big & small) people can give to the church.

Q: What role does faith or values play in your approach to charitable planning?

A: Many of the early “finance” lessons I learned in life were connected to charitable giving to the Catholic church. My parents instilled in me how with proper budgeting & planning you can tithe without causing undue financial stress.

Q: Why is planned giving important to you and your clients?

A: The old saying goes “The only things that are certain in life are death & taxes”—well, why not address an area that can cover both? The tax saving benefits of planned giving can be enjoyed while one is still living & the legacy created through planned giving after death can provide benefits that many future generations will appreciate.

Q: What excites you about helping clients make a lasting impact?

A: Getting to see clients go to the “next level” is always a thrill. When they begin thinking about their legacy & what they will leave behind to their families/communities I can tell that we’ve done a good job giving them the security that their basic needs will continue to be met.

Q: What’s one misconception people often have about planned giving?

A: I am not mega-wealthy, therefore, I can’t have a planned gift. In Mark 12:41-44 we learn about the widow’s gift of only a few coins. While her gift monetarily was small compared to other gifts, Jesus felt it was important to highlight this as an example of giving fully despite your circumstances.

Q: How does working with a mission-driven organization like The Catholic Foundation influence your approach?

A: Knowing that an organization has roots in the Catholic church that will soon celebrate 2,000 years speaks to the stability of the organization. One of the areas that I highlight with my own clients is continuity—God willing, I tell all of my clients I will be working with them through their retirement journey for the next 30 years. Having a similar organization that will be there for the future is especially reassuring when it comes to Planned Giving.

Q: What advice would you give someone starting to think about their legacy?

A: Meet with a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®) to discuss what causes you would like to support both during & after this life. They will be able to evaluate your financial situation to come up with a plan that will allow you to maximize your philanthropic giving.

Q: Can you share a simple planned giving tool or strategy more people should know about?

A: I love the flexibility that Donor Advised Funds can offer…the Catholic Foundation of Central Florida (CFOCF) has an amazing team of professionals to help get them set up for you.
