Fr. Matthew Hawkins
Board Member
Although born in Miami, Fr. Matthew considers himself an Orlando native, having moved there when he was just seven months old. He grew up in a household with a rich “clash of cultures”—his mother was raised Eastern Orthodox and his father was Assembly of God. He was raised in the Presbyterian Church and was introduced to the Catholic faith while attending the University of Florida.
Before answering the call to the priesthood, Fr. Matthew worked as an engineer for nearly seven years in Dallas, Texas. He often speaks about how he loved his career and the people he worked with, but ultimately felt the Lord calling him to give Him an “undivided heart.”
He discerned his vocation at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 2018, at St. James Cathedral in Orlando.
Fr. Matthew has a long history with Annunciation parish, having celebrated his very first Mass there on May 27, 2018. After serving in other roles within the Diocese, he was appointed Pastor of Annunciation Catholic Church in Altamonte Springs on June 1, 2025.
Fr. Matthew also serves as the spiritual advisor for The Catholic Foundation of Central Florida.
