Faces of Philanthropy: Paul & Gaetana Bosley

We have been tithing for nearly 2 decades and decided to tithe our estate plan. We contribute 10% of our income and estate to our church – putting faith into action. The Church benefits as we succeed, and we believe our success is a gift from God.

I have been self-employed for 47 years. Our company, Business Finance Depot, has changed with the times to remain successful. We specialize in providing business financing in the franchise, RV park and glamping industries. I am a contributing writer and speaker and a volunteer for SCORE, a division of the SBA for 15 years.
I have served as the volunteer finance chair of St. Patrick’s Church, Mount Dora. I previously served as the finance chair of Assumption Church, Pompano Beach, FL and noticed there was much more planned giving in that parish. Consequently, I initiated an annual planned giving event at St Patrick’s Church to stimulate our parishioners to remember our parish in their wills and trusts. I started by including St. Patrick’s in my estate plan to become a member of Vivos Christi Society, so I practiced what I preached.)
I’m especially passionate about: SCORE, the National Park Foundation and the Vivos Chrisi Society.
I enjoy spending time with family visiting national parks. The picture is of my wife and I at Yosemite National Park in February which was amazingly beautiful with waterfalls everywhere! My bucket list is very simple – visit all our beautiful national parks. My favorites are Yosemite, Acadia and the Grand Canyon. We were surprised by how much we enjoyed Death Valley National Park in the winter. I am also becoming an avid gardener to prepare an active hobby when I finally retire.
Faces of Philanthropy Q & A with Paul Bosley:
Q: Why did you chose to include a parish, school or ministry in your estate plans?
A: To practice what I was preaching. I also have been tithing for nearly 2 decades, so I decided to tithe my estate plan.
Q: Why do you support the Catholic Foundation?
A: The Catholic Foundation has done an excellent job providing our planned giving seminars at St Patrick Church for over 5 years.
Q: What does planned giving mean to you, your family, or your faith journey?
A: It puts tithing into action so I contribute 10% of my income and my estate to our church so I put my faith into action. The Church benefits as I succeed, and I believe my success is a gift from God.
Q: What legacy you hope your planned gift will leave?
A: That I lived my life as a devoted Catholic. I was raised by my grandparents and aunt who taught me the importance of being dedicated to our Lord through the Catholic Church.
Q: What is your philosophy on stewardship or leaving a lasting charitable impact?
A: I read the Bible from cover-to-cover years ago and noticed tithing was mentioned many times. I just checked ChatGPT and “tithe, tithes and tithing” was mentioned 39 times in the bible.
Q: Is your family aware of or involved in your legacy plans?
A: My family is aware that I tithe and that I have remembered our parish in our estate plan. In fact, my daughter and wife periodically recommend a charity such as The Y or Walk for Breast Cancer to include in my tithe.
Q: What was the process like in arranging your planned gift?
A: Since we had already created an estate, the easiest thing to do was to add the church as a beneficiary to my retirement and checking accounts.
Q: What advice would you give someone starting to think about their legacy?
A: First, consider your family so you state clearly your desires to avoid infighting after you have passed away. Unfortunately, my Mother and my wife’s younger brother had no will when they passed resulting in arguments and bad feelings. Once this is completed, please add your church or our diocese as a 10% beneficiary
Q: Can you share a simple planned giving tool or strategy more people should know about?
A: Add the church or diocese as a beneficiary on checking, savings and retirement accounts. It is free and fast!
