About Lent 2019  Ash Wednesday, March 6, through Easter Sunday, April 21 During Lent, we are asked to devote ourselves to seeking the Lord in prayer and reading Scripture, to service by giving alms, and to sacrifice self-control through fasting. Many know of the tradition of abstaining from meat on Fridays during Lent, but we are also called to practice self-discipline and fast in other ways throughout the season. In addition, the giving of alms is one way to share God’s gifts—not only through the distribution of money, but through the sharing of our time and talent. Almsgiving: Donating time to parishes in the Diocese of Orlando Bradley Boyd Standing Attorney Bradley Boyd has enjoyed helping people with their estate planning since 1992. His first client was a retired couple from Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Palm Bay who wanted an estate plan. Mr. Boyd is an active member of St. John the Evangelist in Viera where he helps to facilitate the “Christ Renews His Parish” men’s retreat, and enjoys singing in the choir. When asked to present at the Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church Legacy Planning Seminar, he jumped at the opportunity. Mr. Boyd began his presentation with a scripture about planning, and a painting he shared of Jesus with a professional. Not only did Mr. Boyd give a wonderful presentation, he also offered to meet with attendees interested in planned giving and to donate 10% of his fees to Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church! “Hopefully, people left [the seminar] with a greater understanding and some peace of mind,” Mr. Boyd said. If you have expertise in legacy planning, including financial planning, and wills and estates, please consider volunteering and lending your expertise to a Legacy Planning Seminar or as a member of our Legacy Planning Advisory Council. We are also seeking financial advisors, trust officers, philanthropy advisors, Wills and Estate attorneys, insurance agents, and hospice nurses and professionals. Please contact Janet Caramello at jcaramello@cfocf.org or call 407-246-4802 to learn more.
